I also caught (quite unexpectedly) the Thurs. night 11:30 flare -- it did indeed look as bright (or brighter) than Venus from my driveway down here in Lindon. I just happened to be outside talking to my dad on the phone, looking up (as I always do at night when the skies are clear!) and it surprised me. Wasn't until it dimmed down quickly and disappeared that I was sure what it was.
