Interesting, my dad used to always be at a booth at the fair for the Utah Philatelic Society, I wonder if this brochure could have come from the event you are remembering? -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Kim Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2008 11:52 AM To: 'Utah Astronomy' Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Freedom 7 Project Mercury Savings Bond Ephemera This reminds me of an event I attended when I was just a little tyke. As I recall, it was the Utah State Fair, or at least it was held at the State Fairgrounds. One of the Mercury capsules was displayed - I think it was on the back of a flatbed truck. The X-15 aircraft was also there, and as this was at the height of the cold war, several military missiles were also on display. I don't recall the year, but I believe that it was 1961. Anyone else remember that? The front is a picture of the project mercury manned spacecraft, inside is more about bonds and about the McDonnell's Project Mercury. A third leaf has black and white head shots of 7 astronauts and a short bio on each one (Shepard, Grissom, Glenn, Carpenter, Slayton, Cooper, and Schirra). It has survived this long, so I'd like to pass it on to anyone who collects this kind of thing and would enjoy it (gift, not sell). Anyone interested? Ann M.
