I remember clear back, way back when I finally had some discretionary income and went to meet my first real telescope salesperson. I spent a great deal of time with him as he tried to talk me out of the computerized ETX-90 and encouraged me to purchase a really nice 8" Meade Starfinder. He assured me at the time that only a VERY small percent of people in the club used or ever would use GOTO, it was "only a passing fad" and "would never really catch on" with serious amateurs. He also assured me that Film Photography was the only way to go as Digital had not progressed enough to be a contender anytime in my foreseeable future.Kind of interesting since this was late in 2000 and the salesman was of course Bill Cowles. I love GoTo, I love PushTo. I love film, I am eager to get deeper into digital. But, I build my own telescopes. It's enjoyable. Sorry to say I never put a dime in Bill's pockets.
