Several folks have mentioned WoW, and I must agree, the George Pal version is a winner. I hear it's been redone, for release later this year? I hope they don't screw it up. I remember a cartoon in a sci-fi convention program, depicting a Martian with a bad cold and Kleenex, saying "We're not whibbed yet, earthligs...." Another one in the middle of the atomic bomb blast, saying, "Man! Don't THAT make your ears ring!" Back in that magic decade, Jeff Wayne did a musical version that was faithful to the book; Richard Burton played the reporter (narrator), there were several other big names in music at the time in the cast, including Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. Some folks my age may remember the top-40 hit "Forever Autumn" on the radio back then. Some didn't like the disco beat but it worked for me, and I didn't like disco otherwise! The imagery of Well's wrtiting was so powerful, and Burton's voice so authoritative, that I was easily transported into the middle of the action. It is available on CD, at least was a few years ago when I got my copy. I also have the LP (full of fantastic artwork), which I got at the Cosmic Aeroplane, I think. Rob, MST3000 is "Mystery Science Theater 3000". The movie was just an expanded version of a long-running TV series in which a couple of robots and a human are trapped on a space station, and tortured by a mad scientist by being forced to watch "cheesy movies". The condos in The Park were built on higher ground than Valley View Dr. We are high and dry here. I'm glad I'm not near the river. I would never build a place near the river. People need to review the history of St. George and read about the flooding of the crops in the 1860s. If it happened once it can happen again. Is this a drought buster? I can't wait to see Lake Powell again. Thanks, Kim. I found that rented tapes are very dirty and contribute to excessive head wear, even when they can be made to track correctly, and DVD's only play if you're one of the first few customers to rent it...after that they are usually badly scratched and won't read correctly. We lost power this morning so we went out to breakfast and got some coffee. We drove down to the Santa Clara river and the river is gushing across Valley View Dr. My mom's friend, who lives near the Santa Clara river, said the water was all the way up to her house but it is receding now. I'm going to walk down to the Santa Clara and take some pictures later. The dam broke up at the Shivwitts Indian reservation. Debbie > > From: "B. I posted two more versions of my Orion Nebula. See www.utahastronomy.com/astrodeb/RZ_ORIONNEBULA2 I did more of a stretch and a hard sharpen on this image. The other pictures is at www.utahastronomy.com/astrodeb/RZ_ORIONNEBULA3 I boosted the brightness control on this image to bring out more of "The Running Man Nebula". Tell me which image you guys/gals like the best. I'm just learning image processing. Until last Friday I knew very little about processing so I've been experimenting. When I know which one is the best I will delete the other two to save space in the gallery. I bought that video. James Woods was on "The Tonight Show" last night. He has a little more grey hair than when he did the movie. Jody Foster was great too. Only thing I didn't like was the Panguitch, UT reference.
