What time will the comet be visible tonight? I heard on tv not until 11 pm, or so. I thought it was visible not long after sunset. Ken Harris

No need to travel out of town, I spotted the comet immediately from my backyard in West Valley last night. Brighter than expected! This little comet reminds of Ikeya-Zhang, around 2002, wasn't it? Maybe a bit bigger and brighter though Ikeya-Zhang was in a darker sky. I used my old Sans & Streiffe 7x35mm binocular and a Vixen Mini-60s spotting scope at various low magnifications. Best views were with a Takahashi 25mm ortho and home-made 23mm wide-angle Plossl eyepiece. It's very low in the WNW. Start looking right after sundown and it will pop into view as soon as the sky darkens sufficiently, only about ten or fifteen degrees in elevation. I was fortunate that the comet just happened to lie in a place between the trees, from my yard, but I wouldn't have to travel more than a block or two to find a good viewing location if I couldn't use the yard. You just need a low western horizon. The east benches should be terrific.

Comet sighting on my street!

<div>WOW what a sight! Big nucleus like it was being described and a long funnel shaped tail! I just hadn't looked north enough but found it this morning about 5:10 am or so with good contrast in Nikon 10 x 35 wide field binoculars. I shot these photos from the Driveway Observatory in St. George this morning. This is the comet the space shuttle crew photographed the other day. It was after 05:00 when I took the photos. The comet was very low on the horizon and I had to wait until it rose high enough to clear a tree that was blocking the view. However, had I set up in the middle of the street I could have taken an earlier shot. While I did consider this, I finally decided to let this idea go.
