Kelly has had something come up on the 28th so I need to go with August 4th. I wanted to post this days ago. During a regular checkup with my doctor on Wednesday, he talked me into the pneumonia vaccine. On Thursday I was horribly sick with every side-effect possible with the vaccine. Only this morning am I feeling anywhere near better. I haven't been able to get out of bed much for the last 3 days. If you are thinking about the pneumonia vaccine this year, please make sure your doctor lists all the possible side-effects. They only surface in a small percentage of those who get the injection but they are severe if you are the unlucky statistic. The good news is, after the booster a year after the first shot, you should be good for ten years before needing another. Hope to see you all on the 4th, I'll send out reminders when we get closer. C.

RIP Siegfried

I just got a SLAS email stating that Siegfried Jachmann has passed away. I am in shock, I have known Siegfried for my entire adult life. He was 75. RIP old friend. If anyone has more information, please let us know.

Liver & Onions

Losing Siegfried over the weekend has reminded me that the time to spend with friends is NOW, not later. Later may never come. I am proposing a L&O luncheon on either July 28th or August 4th. Please let me know which date works for you, we'll pick the one that the most can attend. I suspect we'll talk about the times we all spent with Siegfried and will have many stories to tell about our dear old friend. Which date works for you? Thanks, my friends!

Hoping to borrow/rent Takahashi collimation scope

Hi Folks, Odd request, I know, but these suckers are expensive! (Which may make anyone who owns one reluctant to loan it out; I understand that.) At any rate, I would also need the adapter for a 2" focuser (or 1.25" actually--haven't seen that for sale). If willing to loan/rent/let me come use it under your supervision, please let me know. RIP Harlan Ellison

I was saddened to learn this morning of the passing of Harlan Ellison last week, at the age of 84. I didn't enjoy everything he wrote, but much of it. Another great sci-fi original, gone to the stars. It has been reported that he was furious with Gene Roddenbery about the rewrites to his teleplay "The City On the Edge of Forever". I understand that the original version is available. One of these days I want to get it and compare it to the version that made it to air. RIP, Mr. Ellison, and thank you.
