Brent, speaking of the ISS, I have wondered if it could be put into an orbit that continuously cruised between Earth and Mars. When it swung by Mars it could drop off and retrieved crews. Lunar Eclipse

I knew that the lunar eclipse wasn't visible from here, so imagine my surprise when, on my way to work this morning, I saw a blood-red, full moon hanging low in the southwestern sky. Turns out a wildfire near Tooele was the culprit. But I got to see a red moon anyway, just coincidence that it was within 24 hours of a real eclipse!

Many do narrowband imaging for false-color final images that are pretty darn good. I mostly wanted the focuser just because it's old Jaegers. They weren't the most precise focusers around, though I have one that was re-worked by Jim Riffle (Astro Works) and is smooth as silk. Back in the day, the 2.7" focuser was designed mostly to accomodate those huge military-surplus Erfle eyepieces. New Member Introduction

Hello all, I recently joined the listserv as I will be moving to Utah mid-August from Buffalo, NY. My wife got a job at Weber State. I do technology architecture and consulting. We will be living in Ogden to start, but are looking for a home in SLC. My name is Vincent, I'm in my mid 40's, and I have degrees in Physics and Astronomy. I've done some research ages ago in Radio Astronomy on 37-meter Haystack radio telescope, but have been out of the professional game for almost 20 years. I can't wait to get out to some dark, steady sky Utah sites! Been a while since I've done much observing (maybe once every few months), and my primary scope has been a 12" Dob, which is one of the reasons it's been a while. Too heavy to take out often. I've ordered a CPC 800 HD to use as my main visual scope, and hope the smaller form factor will motivate me to get out to dark skies frequently. Plan on picking up a GEM and APO at some point in the future for AP. Any tips on good observation locations would be greatly appreciated. Given the arid climate, is it safe to assume a dew shield is unnecessary? Thanks for any and all advice. Vin

No I do not, It had some issues even with the moto focus. In different circumstances i would have replaced with some of the very nice new tailpiece and a fancy custom focuser. Am I correct in thinking an oversized diameter is most important if you do photography. Does anyone do black and white anymore? I am in a position to make it there now BTW. Any interest in making it a mini swap meet? BTW, in downsizing i scraped everything in my refractor except the lens, i will be selling it nationally if no local interest.
