Hahaha! The Moab picture does look like the Mars photo. Maybe I should photoshop a Jeep into the APOD photo wayyy back in the distance and post it. That'd get the conspiracy theorists swarming! Heheheee... Capricorn One!

Maybe the prevailing wind, which piled the dune toward the left, also polished the rocks on that side a bit more. Who knew Mars could look so ordinary? APOD-The Gate of Dingo Gap

Love seeing these photos from the Mars rovers. This photo is interesting! Wonder what created the great disparity in the rocks. The ones on the left looking large blocky, windblown and exposed while on the right I see squarish flat stones with sharp edges littering the hill with some exposed older (?) rocks. The Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival, June 25-28, 2014 will be a fabulous event this year. The Keynote Speaker will be Australia's award-winning photographer and amateur astronomer Alex Cherney. Again, we appreciate the efforts of Kevin Poe and his ranger team for planning another great festival. We are also hoping to have Mike Clements and his 70" telescope at the festival. If you would like to participate as a volunteer I need the following information emailed to me at djcolton(a)piol.com: 1. First and Last Name. 2. Vehicle Make 3. Vehicle License 4. Telescope kind and size. 5. Do you want free camping? Free camping will be provided in the park. I also need to know if you will be bringing a trailer or motor home since we try to put them in the North Campground subject to availability. 6. Nights you would like to volunteer. The last bus from the public star party usually leaves around 12:30 AM. After that you are free to remain and observe for yourselves until dawn. Nancy Holt obituary

This is from the New York Times on the Feb. 8 death of Nancy Holt: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/12/arts/design/nancy-holt-outdoor-artist-die… Because her Sun Tunnels are a great astronomical work of art in our own state, I feel SLAS should somehow celebrate them, maybe with a trip for a star party at the site. I feel bad about her loss, as I was one of those she talked with and seemed to like. The site is a special one, combining the Utah desert, astronomy and art. Thanks, Joe

I saw an article on using a ball bearing as an artificial star years ago. Very interesting! I've never tried it before.
