Mark your calendar for early evening May 7. Their will be a close encounter between the Ring nebula and periodic comet 73P. The comet will be close to earth so its exact position in the sky will depend stongly on your location on the globe. Go to spaceweather.com and use the link at the bottom of the page for "Observable Comets". 73p is in the list and includes orbital elements and a link for daily ephemerides. Rest Easy Spielberg

I thought I would share this if you care to look. Obviously Steven Spielberg has nothing to fear but the Salt Lake Astronomical Society held a public outreach event at Wheeler Historic Farm on Friday June 24th and I took some pictures and some jittery video. We had a tremendous turnout with 22 telescopes, hundreds of participants and excellent suburban skies until near 11:00 PM. A great time was had by all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJjzs1q7O_c

Borrow some eyepieces?

So my wife is all excited because she's going to make her first expedition out to Lakeside with me on Sunday the 3rd. It will be her first telescope experience outside of our front yard in Sugarhouse. I have a fantastic 8" telescope, but I have yet to purchase any eyepieces other than the 25mm that came with it. I was wondering if anyone has a set or a couple spares I could borrow for Sunday night, not only to impress the wife with, but also to try and get a bead on which eyepieces I should be looking to purchase. I'd be willing to leave a cash deposit with the owner if necessary. I can use 1.25 or 2 inch eyepieces. Thanks in advance! Chrismo
