Great job Joe! Isn't it true that it is easier to image with shorter focal lengths? I may try piggy-back imaging next year with a Canon Xsi live-view focus camera. At some point I may try PHD autoguiding if I can find a guider that works with Vista 64-bit OS. It seems that there are a lot a technical hoops to jump through when it comes to astrophotography. Frustrated Patrick here... After finishing with the EP I worked tonight I shot a few 60 second images of Comet Hartley. First through the clear filter, then one each through R, G & then B. Each individual shot looks fine but when I tired to put them together to get a pseudo color shot it looked terrible. And no amount of messing with the various settings helped. I just noticed that there's now a place on the SLAS website to order the 2011 Observer's Handbooks and Calendars at a considerable savings. $19.95 (vs $33.95 retail) for the handbook and $12.95 (vs $23.95 retail) for the calendar. I've decided to sell a great film camera that I've had for many years and thought I'd first offer it to my astronomy friends. No, it isn't great for astrophotography; it's a high-end compact camera - sort of a collector's item. But there just may be a connoisseur out there who is interested. Here are the specs: 35mm Nikon 35Ti titanium body in MINT condition. Even the literature that came with the camera is in mint condition. Includes camera in presentation box, leather carrying case, owner's manual, lanyard, battery and film. I've seen these listed for up to $700, but I will entertain any reasonable price. If you're interested, contact me off-list and I can send photos and links to reviews for this camera if you're not familiar with it. It is truly a great camera, not some cheap point-and-shoot. Kim

Zodiacal light

Made the mistake of telling the wife last night about the zodiacal light potentially being visible at this time. So at 03:25 am she get me out of the sack and handed me some strong coffee. Off to highway 59 to find a dark spot on the way to Hildale. First side road had a 30 degree hill to the east so back on the highway. Finally pulled over and think we saw it at 0518 local, well before astronomical twilight began. Faint and relatively low to the horizon, but triangular and N of the Milky Way. Took a photo but contrast is poor. A surprisingly high amount of traffic on that road and at that time. Lots of fun though in retrospect and worth trying to see from a dark sky.

Brown's Canyon/Gravel Quarry

Kim Hyatt and me had a delightful time at the Gravel Quarry Friday night. I thought the sky to be quite dark and steady. Brown's Canyon is my preferred location because from my home in Cottonwood Heights, it is a total of 40 miles to the site and I can get there in as many minutes. Lakeside or Rush Valley is further to drive for me and I prefer to have a little more elevation and a dark eastern sky. Lowell Lyon
