I don't know why but we've been inundated with 6 new subscribers today. I don't think we've ever had that many legitimate sign-ups in a single day. Maybe it was Joe and Sheena mentioning the list in their blogs. But, whatever the reason it's nice to have new blood. Now let's all at least *try* to be nice and use our indoor voices for a while lest we scare the new folks off. :) patrick

I am Mike Nelson, and I just joined the listserver. Patrick mentioned that 6 new people have joined, probably because the list server was linked to in the SLAS Blast he sent out. Hi, I'm Raylene I'm a member of SLAS. I just joined because of the link on Patrick's daily email. I was intrigued to find out more about the two comets that are visible. I don't have a telescope but I have a brother, Lowell Lyon, who has more than one! I just tag along on star parties now and then.

OT: Giapan mount

On Feb. 3, Sheena McFarland did a nice blog on a NASA JPL spinoff product from the Mars Rovers - the Gigapan mount that sells for about $375. Basically, you snap in your cheap digital camera in the mount, ramp up the magnification to maximum, and the mount takes care of taking a few hundred minipics. Looking at the picture can be addictive and you may waste a good portion of your afternoon on it. Second, it takes a while to load because users can mark snapshots out of the photo. About 1400 people have marked snapshots. When you click on a snapshot, the main image will zoom on the marked location.
