Just saw this pop up on Slashdot. http://www.cbc.ca/story/science/national/2005/02/07/aids-human050207.html to quote: /"The famous but troubled camera is heading for a "robotic de-orbit mission," the space agency said Monday in its budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.' 'That means the Hubble, which hovers about 600 kilometres above the Earth and circles it every 95 minutes, will be guided into the ocean once it has worn out. "The timing and content of the de-orbit mission will be a result of activities conducted in 2005," NASA said."/ Is this the end of our quests to the farthest reaches of space? Or just a new chapter. This just showed up on the Utah Rocket group's email list. If you've ever launched Estes type model rockets and thought they were impressive wait until you see the stuff these guys put up in the sky. Weather looks to be great. Mitch Adamson (UROC Vice Pres.) drove out to the launch site last week and checked the ground. At that time the ground was driveable and since the site has not had any signifcant precip since then it should still be good. Rumor has it that amongst the stuff flying tomorrow, Mich will be flying a large number of Hybrids. (Cool weather is the best time to fly them). As is usually the case in the early months (jan and feb) the launch will be a Misfire alley launch. This means that the UROC equipment trailer will not be making the trip out. Mitch will be allowing people to fly off of his equipment (up to 1/2" rod) and you are welcome to bring your own gear as well. Should be a great launch. Flying starts arond 9:00am. Make sure to tell Mitch "thanks" for putting the launch together.
