RE: [USR-TC] Hardware/Software compatibility matrix
They've been buggin me about renewing also, and I've been putting it off. I don't need phone support, only support, and if there's no new software, why bother? Maybe they're pushing the contracts because utstar needs to raise enough money to hire an R&D department? :-) -----Original Message----- From: Randy Cosby [mailto:dcosby@infowest.com] Sent: Friday, January 16, 2004 12:13 PM To: 'Discussion relating to the 3Com/US Robotics Total Control modemsystems.' Subject: RE: [USR-TC] Hardware/Software compatibility matrix As a followup to that question, does anyone know any good reasons to renew a software support contract now? Are there any major new features or fixes coming soon for TCS 4.5 (running TCM not CEM)? Same here. Unless there is a serious new stability issue, security hole that can't be worked around with ACL's, or a quantum leap in digital bit twiddling that magically doubles or triples the actual throughput on an analog connection (other than web accelerators), I really don't need to renew. When one or more of the above does happen, I'll renew. That said, I'm really happy with my TC gear, it's solid as a rock, and light years ahead of the other products I've tried in terms of stability and overall connect speed in a "rural" environment. I'm just not going to toss money at something that isn't "broke" now. Besides, TCS4.5 is only maintainance now anyway, isn't it? 4.7 is the current branch I believe. Brad
