Yes you were right. Although Turkey and North Cyprus both use EURO-ISDN standards, the telcos provide U interfaces not S/T. Therefore we had to buy NTs for our (International version) NETServer to work. Now when I connect the lines, the LEDs flash green and then off indicating that the modem is ready to receive calls. The Data Link Layer and Physical Interface are both ACTIVE. The problem now is that I cannot get the unit to answer incoming calls. The S0 register is set to 1 and the dip switch is correctly set. Is this a configuration problem on the NETServer or could it be an ISDN problem? ie. protocol / answering mode / TEI etc problem? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks, David.
There are two types of Netserever /16 I-modem. One of them needs S/T type of line and the other needs U type. Seems you are using the wrong interface. I guess your netserver needs S/T type, but your Telco provides U type. In this case you need network terminator to change U type to S/T. If you have 2 wire per line from telco it is U type.

I have been running a small ISP in Northern Cyprus for around 6 months now. Users have been dialling in on analogue lines while we have been waiting for our ISDN lines to be installed. After waiting nearly a year I have finally had 4 ISDN BRI lines installed.
I purchased a USRobotics NETServer/16 I-modem to use with these ISDN lines.
The NETServer is using the following firmware/software:
NETServer Plus 8/16 - Euro-ISDN only Version: 4.0.14 NETServer Manager Plus 8/16 - Euro-ISDN only Version: 1.1
which I downloaded from 3com's support pages.
I have followed the instructions on the NETServer Manager and documentation from the website.
I have 4 ISDN BRI lines which were each installed as two bare wires by the local telecom. I have connected these two bare wires to pins 4 and 5 on the RJ-45 cable that came with the unit.
According to the documentation, after connecting the ISDN lines and configuring the I-modems, the LED lights should change from yellow/amber to green and then go off indicating that the lines are ready to receive calls. Also, when the I-modems are issued the ATI12 command the Physical Interface and Data Layer should both be ACTIVE.
However, after following the instructions, the ATI12 command still shows both to be INACTIVE and the LED lights are still flashing yellow, eight per second. I have checked the ISDN line voltage and they are all fine.
I am obviously missing something here. Can anyone offer any assistance and point me in the right direction?
