Dr. Nugent (Ph.D, Harvard) is a historian of China specializing in literary culture and manuscripts of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Nugent's talk will focus on the Tang capital of Chang’an (contemporary Xi'an). He will examine the imperial city and the cultural life it fostered during China's "Golden Age," including its relationship to Dunhuang.
