Dear Friends of the T’ang Studies Society, I am writing to remind you that the deadlines for the Society’s various grant programs are approaching. The Board of Directors and I hope that you and your graduate students will take advantage of the opportunities these grants represent to further research in the area of Tang Studies. Descriptions of the available grants can be found at the Society’s website: http://tangstudies.org/files/TSSGrantsGuidelinesJune2014.pdf Since only current members of the Society are eligible to receive grants, perhaps this is also a good time to remind those of you who have not yet had a chance to renew your membership for 2014 to do so now. As you know, membership has other rewards besides the Society’s grant programs. All members receive the journal Tang Studies as well as online access to the full run of its back issues. 2014 dues for regular member are $35.00 and for students $20.00. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Ph.D. must be in hand or expected by September 1, 2015. For full consideration, please provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a writing sample (e.g., a dissertation chapter). Junior applicants should also solicit three letters of recommendation. Tenure-track Position for Pre-modern Chinese Literature and Culture

The Department of Asian Studies at Cornell University announces a tenure-track assistant professor position for a scholar and teacher of early Chinese literature specializing in any area of literary production, including histories of texts and writing, intellectual history, material culture, and the intersection of literature and religion, during any pre-20 th century period; the primary focus of this search is from the Song through the Qing dynasties, but scholars specializing in earlier periods who engage themes or theoretical approaches that cross national boundaries or conventional periodization are also welcome to apply. Candidates should be able to teach a general education “Introduction to China” class as well as more advanced undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, including Classical Chinese. Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2014, and publishing record or strong potential for publishing is important.
