Ogden suicide victim named
Standard Examiner Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2005 Ogden suicide victim named OREM -- Police have identified the Ogden man who killed himself after leading authorities on a chase over the weekend in Orem. Police were attempting to arrest Frank Leon Garcia, 56, for trying to entice a 13-year-old girl over the Internet for sex. The "girl" was an undercover cop working for the Utah County Sex Crimes Task Force. Police spotted Garcia en route to a prearranged meeting place in Orem Saturday afternoon and tried to box the man in. After a short chase, they were finally able to stop him. As officers approached the car with guns drawn, they heard a shot come from the inside and saw Garcia slump over. He was taken to nearby Timpanogos Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Garcia pleaded guilty to a forcible sexual abuse in December 2003 that stemmed from a rape case out of BYU.
