Orem men face charges
   of child enticement

Two Orem men have been accused in separate complaints of arranging a sexual encounter with what they thought was a 13-year-old girl they met over the Internet. Authorities say both men showed up for a rendezvous with an undercover FBI agent posing as a minor in a chat room. Jeff Ryan Newell, 25, is in custody and has an appearance scheduled for Friday in U.S. District Court. Richard Andrew Richards, 47, has been released on his own recognizance. They face five to 30 years in prison if convicted of child enticement.

   Nebraskan pleads guilty
   in I-70 bus hijacking

A Nebraska man pleaded guilty Wednesday to highjacking a Greyhound bus on Interstate 70 near Green River on May 31. Antonio Hernandez, 30, admitted he wanted to force the driver to take the bus to Nebraska so he could run over his wife's trailer because he believed she was cheating on him. Hernandez put a knife to the driver's throat, ordered him to stop the vehicle and told the passengers to get off. When he went to look for a cell phone in the passenger baggage, the driver hit the emergency brakes and jumped off the bus. Hernandez faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced Feb. 7 by U.S. District Judge David Winder.

   Another lawsuit challenges
   state's sodomy laws

A Salt Lake County man filed suit Wednesday in 3rd District Court seeking to overturn Utah's sodomy and fornication statutes. The man, identified as D.A.R., said the laws that prohibit oral and anal sex between unmarried participants and sexual intercourse by unmarried people are a violation of his privacy and right to expression. A series of previous lawsuits attacking the same laws have been unsuccessful.
