Roy man arrested in Detroit on plan to have sex with young girls Thursday, May 5, 2005 By Shane Farver Standard-Examiner staff sfarver@standard.net ROY -- A Roy man was arrested by federal agents in Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week under suspicion of soliciting sex from a minor after FBI agents say he went there to have illicit sex involving two fictional girls. A criminal complaint from Detroit's U.S. District Court states that Jonathan L. Owens, 52, began correspondence with a federal agent posing as a 39-year-old woman in February. The agent, who was posing as the woman from the Midwest, had said online that she was interested in a sexual relationship involving herself and her two young daughters. Owens had identified himself as a chemical engineer for the Air Force and a father to seven grown children, the complaint said. The complaint stated the agent sent two pictures of herself at the ages of 3 and 5 to Owens. The pictures represented the fictional daughters. The document then stated that Owens expressed a desire to meet with the faux mother and daughters. It states that the suspect said he was going on a business trip and could manage a "two to three day layover in Michigan." The suspect expressed concern that the girls might tell a friend at school that they had engaged in sexual activity, the complaint said. Owens, the complaint said, also sent child pornography to the agent during their Internet correspondence. The document said he agreed to fly down to meet the mother and girls. On April 27, Owens landed at the airport and was subsequently arrested by special agents of the FBI Detroit Office and Wayne County Airport Police. The complaint said Owens waived his Miranda rights following his arrest and confessed to traveling to engage in sex with minors. The complaint also said he confessed to transmitting child pornography. He is currently being detained. Story Tools Printer Friendly E-mail This Article Text bigger | smaller
