The rally is to push the Utah Legislature to properly fund our schools. Of course, better funding will serve us all well. We’d love for you and your members to join us. See e-mail below for more details. Solidarity, James Tobler SLEA President *Our February 28th Walk For Students is on! * We will be meeting at the * Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building at 1 pm on Friday, February 28th* and walking up State Street to the Capitol (Federal Building is at 125 S. State St <https://www.google.com/maps/search/125+S.+State+St?entry=gmail&source=g>.). The Utah Education Association (UEA) has reserved the Capitol Rotunda from 12 noon to 4 pm, so once at the Capitol we’ll enter the Rotunda for a program. We should be done before 3 pm. Schools will be letting out early to minimize disruption to students and their families. Due to busing concerns, school release times will be staggered. *Students from all high schools as well as Backman, Emerson, Franklin, Meadowlark, Parkview, Hawthorne, and Whittier, will be released at 11:45 am that day. All other SLCSD students will be released at 12:30 pm.* We need *EVERYONE* there in *RED* to make this as impactful as possible! *Why Walk For Students?* To push our Legislature to better fund our schools! We’re asking for $1,234 per student, or $900 million to adequately serve Utah students. *Better Funding = Money to Reduce Class Sizes* *Better Funding = Money to Recruit and Retain Substitutes & Para-Professionals* *Better Funding = Money for Mental Health Professionals to work with Trauma Affected Students* This march is open to anyone who wants to support increased funding for education! Please communicate/forward this info to your PTA and SCC’s, other non-SLEA school staff, as well as other community supporters. Since we are lobbying the Legislature, this is seen as political activity, *so remember to use a personal/non-district e-mail account when sending information about this event via e-mail* (fine to send info *TO* a district e-mail account, just not *FROM *a district e-mail account). We are walking on the 28th in addition to our *SLEA Educator Day on the Hill (EDoH) tomorrow, February 14th*. Tomorrow we’ll meet at 7 am in the Senate Building cafeteria.
