[BBTC Ride_calendar] Saturday's ride
Please join us on October 15, 2005, for the second annual Josie Johnson Memorial Ride to unite the cycling community and promote bicycle safety. Let's show that BBTC supports cycling safety and wear your club jersey to the event! The Josie Johnson Memorial Ride will meet at Sugarhouse Park (south end terraces) at 12 noon, ride to the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon for a moment of silence, and return along Wasatch Drive back to Sugarhouse Park. The ride is about 21 miles in total length. There is no fee to participate. Mayor Rocky Anderson and local bike advocates will address bicycle safety in our community at the gathering in Sugarhouse Park. Project leaders on the Wasatch Blvd and Big Cottonwood Road bike lane projects will share updates at the gathering at the mouth of Big Cottonwood. Also, the Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee (SLCBAC) will display work and solicit feedback on the county-wide bicycle route map project. Tour de France stage winner Dave Zabriskie will lead the ride to keep the pace nice and slow. Seriously! This ride is in remembrance to those killed in car collisions while riding their bicycles and honors Josie Johnson, who was killed while riding up Big Cottonwood Canyon on September 18, 2004. Josie was an avid road and mountain biker, overall outdoor enthusiast, and aspiring doctoral student at the University of Utah. Bright-colored jerseys and t-shirts will be available; donations for the shirts and jerseys will be used to fund the Utah Bicycle Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bicycle safety.
