Re: [BBTC Ride_calendar] Bike Shops?
Robert, I've had my mountain bikes worked on at several places around town, but have had the very best experience at Contender. They recently moved and are now just west of the Coffee Garden on 9th and 9th. A few days ago, I sent a friend over to them because the chain on her bike had broken. Another bike shop had told her that she needed to leave the bike there overnight, which she could not do. When she left Contender she called to tell me that it had been a very pleasant experience to deal with them. Not only did they repair the chain while she waited, they did not even charge her for it. When I would bring in my old mountain bike for annual tune-ups and as parts were starting to wear out, they would discuss various options with me without any pressure. I felt that they were very patient with me, as I was a novice and did not want to sink a lot of money into that old bike. I happened to be in their new store this morning to get an inner tube and could not help but notice that all their personnel appear to be very happy to work there. This is certainly reflected in the way that they treat their customers. The man at the counter even got exited when I won a prize in the Trek scratch-off game, like I had won a Trek Madonna or something - it was just a Trek water bottle, but his enthusiasm about it made me feel like I had won the bike. You will find that they will treat you and your bike with respect. This was not the case when I brought my old bike for a tune-up to Spin Cycle in Holladay a few years ago. I have not done business with Fisher or the Bicycle Center, so I do not know how they compare. John J. In a message dated 7/15/2005 4:40:56 PM Mountain Standard Time, r46turner@uofu.net writes:
My mountain bike needs a little maintenance and a tuneup. Can anyone recommend a good place to take it? What about for road bikes? Is one place better for mountain bikes and another for road bikes? I live about a block from Contender; Fisher's and the Bicycle Center are near, too. Anyone know anything about them?
Thanks,
Robert Turner
