[BBTC Ride_calendar] helmets work
Another helmet story anyone? This one is about a 5-year-old barreling down his driveway laying prone on a skateboard, going out in the street, and getting his head run over by a truck's back tire. He was wearing a bike helmet from the looks of what was left to photograph. A few lost baby teeth and a couple staples in his head later, the kid's just fine. Without the hat, he'd have had a smashed pumpkin for sure. I need a copy of the picture of the helmet that went along with this email about bike helmets really work. I thought I saved it, but it has been deleted. I wanted to send it to a few friends. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks, Cristy
Yes, helmets work, but they don't prevent crashes. Learning how to properly execute an emergency stop so that one doesn't flip off of the bicycle can prevent crashes. And poorly designed intersections between bike paths and roads never work. Part of this particular path was discussed at the League of American Bicyclists' Education Leaders Conference that was conducted in Madison in 2002. It places both motorists and cyclists at a disadvantage. Susan Snyder BBTC member Instructor & regional trainer, League of American Bicyclists --- jp2705@comcast.net wrote:
