[BBTC Ride_calendar] Rides Anywhere
Once again we degenerate into name calling and personal attacks. Let us please remember that a club exists to serve all its members with equal opportunities. If people feel that personal mileage wars are the function of BBTC's existence, then perhaps we should create a category that gives extra points for changing flats, or leading a paceline for more miles than anyone else...maybe an award for the lightest bike. Folks, like it or not, this is a club, the lowest form of membership being a dues payer, who nevertheless has the same privileges as the highest mileage rider. The point is to take advantage of the privileges open to all. There are people who dedicate their lives to cycling, riding as hard as they can all the time, as much as possible. They're called professionals. They get credit for all the out of state rides they do, heck, even out of the country rides. Please, let's put some fun back into this! -- "America and defeat cannot be made to rhyme." (Eric A. Johnston) Jeffrey M. The way I understand the original purpose of the mileage award was to get more club involvement. I believe it has served that purpose well. However, we must as a club come up with different ways of keeping ALL members involved. The mileage thing as it does for most mileage based systems, such as the BMW mileage awards, although does get some members involved over time awards/rewards those with unlimited time to ride, not the rest of us. My guess, the majority of membership is comprised of people with lives outside of cycling... jobs, family and/or other activities they enjoy. We should also address this demographic and get them a bit more involved and recognize them more so they feel more like they belong. Sometimes, they just need a "little" encouragement.
