George . . . Training in Solvang California
As reported in TrekBicycles.com, George and the
Discovery
Channel Pro Cycling Team was in Solvang,
California in January for their annual winter training
camp. Joining George was Tom Danielson,
Viatcheslav Ekimov, last year's Tour de France best
young rider jersey winner, Yaroslav Popovych and
2005 Giro d'Italia champion Paolo Savoldelli. Read
more about how they train, their innovative bicycle
technology and wind tunnel testing at
www.TrekBikes.com
George . . . Fundraising in Austin,
Texas
When he isn’t training, George can be found giving
unceasingly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Hincapie, comedian Robin Williams, Chris Carmichael,
Bob Roll, and other Discovery Channel team members
lend their faces and hearts to the foundation made
famous by their friend Lance.
Check out the paparazzi photos taken at the
2005 Ride for the Roses event in Austin, Texas a few
months ago. And be sure and bid on the autographed
items signed by George, Robin, Lance’s mother (Linda
Armstrong Kelly), and of course, the man himself,
Lance! at the Skinny Tire Festival’s Silent Auction.
George . . . Reading “The
Tour”
“Entertaining and inspirational. I couldn’t put it
down.” – George Hincapie, the only teammate to ride
with Lance Armstrong in all seven of his Tour de
France victories.
Ben Barnes is on a quest to win the Tour de France.
Along the way he confronts obstacles greater than
he ever imagined, but it is the specter of illegal
performance enhancing drugs that truly shakes him.
In “The Tour”, readers experience the unique
pressures and challenges posed by these substances
from the perspective of a professional athlete. Can
Ben overcome adversity to experience victory in "The
City of Love"? Join him as he races over the back
roads of France to find out.
Dave Shields will be signing his new book “The Tour”,
www.daveshields.com Sunday of the Festival
following the Dead Horse Point State Park ride.
