Cactus Hugger |
100/O/3/e | ||
| This year the "Cactus Hugger Century" takes a new route through the beautiful red rock and high desert scenery of Southwestern Utah because recent flooding washed away the road to Gunlock along the Santa Clara River making the usual route impassable. The tour starts and ends at Hurricane High School 100 South 300 East, Hurricane, Utah. Following scenic Hwy 9, the route winds through LaVerkin, Virgin, Rockville and Springdale into the "Temple of Sinawava" in the heart of Zion National Park. The beauty and grandeur of Zion are breath taking so bring your camera! Seeing the park with only an occasional tram and no autos passing by is a refreshing treat. All riders return to Hurricane High School for lunch to complete the Metric Century (65 miles). Then "Century" riders will cycle to the south of town over quiet, paved, back country roads to Sky Ranch where every home has a "hanger". The last spur of the ride is up and over the hill to Sand Hollow State Park and red sand dunes. Sorry, no mountains to climb this year. | ||||

Antelope Island |
40/B-C/4-5/c | ||
| If you're not up to the Cactus Hugger this weekend, how about a nice ride on Antelope Island? We'll meet at the entrance to Antelope Island State Park. Take exit 335 off I-15 and drive west along Antelope Drive, which will take you to the beginning of the causeway where we'll meet. There is an entrance fee of $4 per bike or $8 per car. We'll ride across the causeway, around the north end of the island, and down the east side to Fielding Garr ranch and back. Bring a lunch. Those of us who are still hungry after the ride can stop at the Layton Crown Burger on the way home. Co-listed with the Wasatch Mountain Club. Call if the weather looks questionable. | ||||
