From OUR home page:
The Bonneville Bicycle Touring Club (BBTC) is a club of both road & mountain bike enthusiasts with a focus on touring & day riding rather than racing. ... Last year, the BBTC raised over $8,600 for the Huntsman Cancer Institute by donating $5 from every entry fee to the Little Red Riding Hood and ULCER. This year our goal is $10,000 for Huntsman by donating the same $5 from every Little Red Riding Hood entry and $5 from every ULCER entry fee. Join us in these classic rides and help Huntsman in their mission is to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to provide education about cancer risk, prevention, and care. Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy the New Year! --- "slccycler@netzero.com" <slccycler@netzero.com> wrote:
It's funny to see everyone's different perspective to the same issue. For us, having out of state rides eligible for club mileage was not about getting the extra miles for the high mileage award. Seems like the high mileage leader (both male and female) did the out of state rides without benefit of club mileage and still kicked our butts!! (that was a joke!) We just thought that offering club mileage for out of state rides might give others incentive to join in. Some of the best times we had last year were at rides that were off the schedule. It gave us an opportunity to meet club members on a level that you don't get when you do a local ride. We certainly understand that everyone is at a different place in their lives and have different obstacles to being able to ride all the time, we are no different - money issues, our grandchild that lives with us half time, even older kid crap!!! If the consensus is not to give club mileage for out of state rides, I don't think it will be a big deal to the people that do those rides. I'm sure they are going to ride the ride they want to do regardless. But maybe having those rides on the schedule would give that person that wants to join in the opportunity to know that club members are going to go do that ride, and possibly they could car pool down, or have someone that would shuttle their bike. It would just be one more option for our members. Doug and Shelly Jensen
