Ok – after a number of years in the saddle, I finally, absolutely, must replace my 5 year old Selle Italia saddle. It’s completely worn out and the small gel insert pad came off last week. So I went into Contender today and talked to a guy who suggested I purchase a fi’zi:k saddle. Nothing against that saddle – I have one on my mountain bike and love it. But the sales guy suggested I look at a longer saddle since I move around a little bit on longer rides and am a “big guy” (I thought Dougie was, not me!). I looked at a few others – mostly Selle Italia – and then decided I had better go home and do a little research. So I spent the last hour or so looking at reviews on Roadbikereview.com and thought I would ask for advice from those on the mailing list. I’ve really enjoyed my last Selle Italia and wouldn’t mind buying another one. However, I’d like to get one that is similar to the one I have but a little more comfortable for longer (4+ hour) rides. I looked at Selle Italia and noticed that they have a fluid suspension system in some of their saddles. That looks interesting. Also, some of the reviews say the Turbomatic is great – but they no longer make them. The fi’zi:k Alante has good reviews, but I don’t want to spend $200 on a saddle. Ideally, I’d like to be between $75 and $110. So if anyone has some advice – love to hear it. Thanks, Greg
