Susan, if your request is due to my comment, I publicly apologize.  That was my attempt (lame though it may have been) at humor.  You raised valuable insight as to the competing purposes re the mileage competition.  The mention of Palm Springs, Las Vegas, and people able to ride all the time, however, focused my focus-challenged mind on the evils of an 8-5, M-F job, especially during smog-alert, cold temperature inversions.  Again, I am sorry.
