This weekend's ride, the Up and Over, is now marked.  With apologies to the Department of Homeland Security, I used "Nuclear Yellow" paint, with a skeleton key pattern.  If rider's can't see these marks, they can't see stop signs either.  The ride starts at the dog park Northeast of Hogle Zoo, and proceeds as follows: 

 

1  Up emigration, summit Little Mountain, head to the reservoir

2. Past the reservoir, head up Parleys, exit at the summit.

3.  Take frontage road to Kimball Junction

4.  From Kimball Junction head towards Park City to Kearns Blvd, bear left on Kearns toward Highway 40.

5.  Ride through the underpass of Highway 40, plus another 1.5 miles to Brown's Canyon Road, which is labeled with directional signs bearing left to Peoa/Oakley.  Brown's is a sweet new road, wide shoulders, smooth surface, good decline, no cops.  Let it all hang out. 

6. At the end of Brown's Canyon, hang a right onto state road 32 towards Peoa for approximately 1 mile.  In Peoa, take the right fork leading riders off of the main highway onto a remote farm road called  N. Wooden Shoe Lane.  This road "cut's the corner" off State Road 32, and is almost completely unused.  If rider's want a few extra miles, they can remain on 32, and proceed all the way to Kamas.  Anyhoo, Old Wooden Shoe road meanders through farm country until it terminates on State Road 32, just a few miles to the North of Kamas. 

7.  Hang a right onto 32 to get to Kamas. 

8.  At Kamas, turn right again on State Road 248, which takes you back to Kearns Boulevard, and ultimately, to the start of the ride. 

 

A few additional notes:

 

Rest stops.  I recommend refilling at the summit of Parleys, and in Park City there is a 7-eleven just before you bear left on Kearns Blvd.  After Park City, it is a long haul to Kamas, with no services available in Peoa.  In Kamas, there is a rider friendly gas station on the Southwest corner of the intersection of State Road 32 and 248. 

 

Road hazards:  By now we all know of the 1 lane road restriction at the bottom of Emigration.  Riders need to obey the traffic signal!  The road is clear to the bottom of Brown's Canyon Road, where a bridge is undergoing repair.  The road is restricted to one lane of travel, with a similar traffic control device to the one used in Emigration.  State Road 248 from Kamas has road cones along the shoulder of the road just after riders hit the summit of the climb and start to overlook the reservoir.  It appeared riders could remain to the right of the cones, otherwise riders must risk traffic by remaining in the #2 lane of travel.  Last but not least, the downhill slope of I-80 leading back to the East Canyon Exit is in the process of being resurfaced.  The road is rough, but ride-able.   

 

 

The ride, as marked is 93 miles.  If riders are feeling frisky and want extra miles, they can avoid the Old Wooden Shoe exit on State Road 32 and take a jaunt up to Smith Morehouse before heading to Kamas on S.R. 32.
