The dead line for posting rides for Jan and Feb is fast approaching. If you are thinking of leading any rides during these winter months you only have five more days to post them in time for approval and getting them into our newsletter. FYI: It has been asked if out of state rides would be eligible for club mileage credit. To date, it has been club policy to not award mileage for out of state starts and since we are already into the winter riding cycle we will continue to operate under that same ruling. What are your thoughts on this? Would you, the members of BBTC, like to allow miles earned for out of state rides if they are posted within the guide lines of the ride calendar? Or, does it create an unfair advantage for those fortunate to have the flexibility to go south during the winter months and extend their riding season to year round? I realize not all of us are inspired by the potential to be the high mileage leader of the club but are happy with going out for a fun pedal with good friends on a nice day and don't care either way about the miles. I understand and think that's great, I would still welcome your input on the subject as I begin and continue to learn the role of road captain and work to create rides for every member and bicycling enthusiast. If the trail is to sloppy, plan 2 is a road ride as far as the temp, up to 40 miles. If it is just plain to crappy, we will shuttle over to Mill creek for a hike. You know you're an addicted road cyclist when . . . . . . your surgeon says you need a heart valve replacement and you insist on presta. . . . you find nothing disgusting about discussing the connection between hydration and urine color. . . . you empathize with roadkill. . . . you take your bike when shopping for a motor vehicle, just to make sure it'll fit inside. . . . good cycling roads are the main thing that matters when hunting for a new house. . . . you view crashes as an opportunity to upgrade components. . . . you say "On your left!" when walking around another pedestrian. . . . dessert is the first thing you order when eating out. . . . you smile at someone, who informs you that you have bugs in your teeth.

All, I am recovering from surgery and will not be able to lead Saturday's snow shoe or mtb ride. I sent out an email asking for volunteers about a week ago and had no bites. Therefore, Saturday's event at Snow Basin is hereby canceled. Kim

I received the following from a biker east of the Rockies. It's good news, due at least in part to signatories to the online petition circulated by the bbtc. While it does little to mitigate the embarrassment and shame suffered by the CU Barf-a-Loos at the hands of the mighty and noble NU 'Huskers last Friday, it's nonetheless a step forward on the roads of Colorado: * * * * * * * * * DENVER, CO (December 2, 2005) --The following are the remarks made by Colonel Mark Trostel, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol, in regard to timed special events on Colorado roadways. "Following a great deal of discussion with my staff and other agencies, I recently made a decision about the maximum number of participants for timed special events on our roadways. "This decision impacted a few events where participants highly exceeded the cap of 2,500. "In the spirit of cooperation and problem solving, I have decided to delay the implementation of this cap for a period of 12 months. "This decision is based on several factors which include creating additional dialogue on special events and the impact on the motoring public, as well as in the communities where they are being held, receiving additional input about early registration time periods for the upcoming 2006 special events' season, and most importantly the safety of all the entities involved. Building partnerships to create safer use of our highways is everyone's responsibility. "We will take this interim period to work with the special event organizers, the motoring public, the community and legislators to create a policy that will ensure the safety of event participants and motorists. "Our goal is to effectively manage the safety of all such special events with our current resources. "The top priority for the Colorado State Patrol is highway safety. It is with this mission that we serve our communities and citizens. "During the next 12 months, we look forward to reinforcing our partnerships with special event organizers and other interested partners. The results of these cooperative efforts will allow us to further evaluate the safety needs of timed special events and create appropriate policy." Colonel Mark V.
