[BBTC Ride_calendar] August ride submissions

Hi BBTC, The 15th of the month is quickly approaching. With the new guidelines for ride submission, it's not required that you enter your rides by the 15th for mileage credit, but it is still necessary if you would like your ride to be listed in the newsletter. If you usually do a weekly or other regular ride, please submit the whole month of August if possible. Please remember to check the calendar before entering rides to check for conflict or overlap. This month please consider the volunteer time required for ULCER in your scheduling plans. We need all the volunteer help we can get. This means from about the 6th through the 12th. Everyone wants to ride that week, but let's try to keep it light and band together to make the ULCER a success. How about a ride to volunteer sights, or start at the sights and finish in time to help, etc.? Check the ULCER volunteer position description page for dates and times. Remember to check the calendar often as it is more dynamic now. Rides are entered and approved and if you're not paying attention, could be overlooked. Hey BBTC, I just got a call from Bob Renwick who's on sight in Nephi. Due to the forest fire in the Beaver area, the air quality for the Nebo Super Series could be questionable. He doesn't want to cancel the ride at this point, but would like to warn everybody that it is hazy, and that the wind is blowing from the southwest. Riders are advised to check the current air quality and to use their own judgment as to whether or not to ride. Eric Unck Road Captain '07

BBTC I know, Monday is recovery day. After Mt. Nebo or whatever ride you did this weekend you need to take the day off the bike. Perfect! Please join me. just for fun, at the Gallivan Center for a screening of the classic movie, "Breaking Away". This is a great movie, it happens to have some cycling. If you haven't seen it, you need to. It will give you a glimpse of cycling way back in the 70's, and Indiana, where I am from. If you have seen it, come just so you can yell "Refund"! O.K. BBTC, the time has come! Please take a moment today to log on to the website and sign up for a volunteer spot for ULCER. Since this ride benefits every member of this club, we need to turn out in droves to put on the best ride possible. With all the exciting new changes and all the hard work that has already been done, this is going to be a stellar event, with your help of course. Compared to this time last year, we have about 3 times as many riders signed up. This thing is growing!!! If you are riding, there are many opportunities to volunteer the week before. You could also help in the morning before the ride, or after the ride. We have added a ÂshiftÂ system so we get all of our bases covered. We need help Fri. Taterville came and went on Wednesday july 4 - with about 25 people riding a great marked course provided by Ben and Jen Green. Congrats to Vena Margo for completing her second Superseries event of the season in fine style. Saturday's SYWTRAC ride is a great warm-up for Sunday's Nebo Loop the shortest and tallest SS event of the season. The campground bear has been caught, its gonna be 5 degrees cooler even in the valley and eats afterward at Nephi Park. dont miss it! DW

[BBTC Ride_calendar] "So You Want to Ride a Century" training ride tomorrow

For those planning on the SYW2RAC ride tomorrow, it mostly follows the same route as the Cycle Salt Lake Century back in May. The attachment is a modified version of the CSLC cue sheet for the 70 mile distance we have scheduled. The distances listed are approximations. Here is a link to the original CSLC cue sheet and map: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Cycle-Salt-Lake-Century The difference between our ride and the CSLC is the start and the turnaround. We are starting at the Agriculture Building (350 N Redwood Rd.) instead of the fairgrounds, and we are turning around at the Maverick on 2000 West and Antelope Dr. in Syracuse instead of venturing farther north or to Antelope Island. On the attached cue sheet, the differences between our ride and the CSLC are identified by the font in italics. Please note that the return route is not as simple as retracing our way back. I have highlighted the differences in the return route in grey. I rode the northern portion of the route this week and it appears the CSLC route is still pretty well marked so I have not remarked it. It will be hot tomorrow so come prepared. There are several spots along the route to get water and supplies. Lyle S. Because of the Heat, Mickey has agreed to provide Sag and follow The Cycling for Weight Management Ride. He is willing to breakaway and respond to those who may find themselves in need of help on the Beer Widows Ride as well as the Thursday Night Bike & Brew. If you are on either of these rides and need assistance You may reach him by Cell @ 201-8923 He will be carrying water & Tubes and if needed can take you back to the start of whatever ride you are on. Many beginning riders are in need of this extra occasional safety net. If you do not need assistance please disregard this notice. Have a great ride and stay HYDRATED! Barbara

[BBTC Ride_calendar] Breaking Away movie shown for free in Park City, SLC, and Sundance

Hi BBTC, The Sundance Institute's Outdoor Film Festival begins this Fri/Mon/Wed and the first movie is the 1979 cycling classic movie "Breaking Away". Friday at dusk, it shows in the Park City Park; Monday it's at the Gallivan Center, and Wednesday it's at Sundance Resort. Dusk is about 9:30 right now. If anyone is coming to PC on Fri night to get out of the heat of the valley, and wants to go on an evening bike ride first, give me a holler and we'll figure something out.
