Hey BBTC! Dana's mtb ride on Sat sounds like a lot of fun, the mid-mtn trail is a great single track and without having to climb up to it means you get all the fun without the work. As most of you know, I have elected to be car less this summer and use my bicycles to commute and for general transportation. As such, I am looking for someone going to this ride from the salt lake valley that could offer me a ride to and from. Hello All! Sorry but due to a death in the organizer's family, this weekend's Dual State Dual Century Challenge Weekend has been canceled. All registration fees including Active.com fees will be refunded via US Mail this Friday. They may reschedule the event for later in the summer. [BBTC Ride_calendar] New Ride Submission Format

Hi BBTC, In an effort to modernize the Ride Calendar, the board has voted to allow rides to be eligible for mileage credit 2 weeks after submission (pending approval). This will make it so ride leaders don't have to commit up to 6 weeks (10 in the winter months) ahead of time before submitting rides. This is sort of an experiment and if it works out we'd like to see the lead time reduced to something like 1 week. Rides will be submitted in the normal manner, but should show on the calendar as approved within a few days. We've already identified some problems with this format, but feel it will be a good thing after some initial growing pains. For a ride to appear on the list printed in the newsletter it will still need to be submitted before the 15th of the previous month. Please check the calendar before submitting a ride so as not to conflict with other rides. If you do a weekly ride, please continue to submit several weeks worth of rides to lock in those dates. The major rides such as Super Series, Mini-Me, etc., have set dates and will take priority. Out of state rides will not be eligible for 2 week submission because of their special rules. With 85 rides on the calendar for July we can't squeeze many more in. Just because you can submit rides easier now, doesn't necessarily mean you should. Think about why you joined a bike club. Don't throw a ride on the calendar just because the ones already there don't fit your schedule or mileage needs perfectly. Inconvenience yourself a little to ride with friends. If you wanted to ride the exact distance at the exact time you wanted to, you could ride alone. We're doing this experiment to streamline and modernize the process and to make it so folks don't have to stay up until midnight on the 15th cramming rides they're not sure they can commit to leading that far out on the calendar. If it doesn't work out we can go back to the old way, but let's give it a try. Thanks, Eric Unck Road Captain '07

For those planning on the SYW2RAC ride from Springville tomorrow, it's the same as the Mini-Me portion of the ALS ride back on May 5th. I've attached the map and cue sheet from that ride for those who are interested. Be aware that it is 60 miles in a fairly remote area so come prepared with lots of water and supplies. Be prepared for the warm temperatures as well.

Hi BBTC, For folks going to the MS 150, Karen Curtin and Tom Coffey will both be doing ride leader duties. Tom will have the sheet for the 100 milers, and Karin the 75. It's OK to sign either sheet, just write in your mileage. Also, I received some e-mail about club jerseys to purchase for the ride. As far as I know, we sold out of BBTC jerseys at the Spring Membership Meeting. For those not going there are some good rides on the schedule. Utah, Summit, and Salt Lake Counties all offer opportunity to ride this weekend. The temperatures for the MS 150 in Logan this weekend are forecasted at 54 low to 95 high degrees on Saturday and slightly cooler on Sunday. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Logan%2C+u t Here are some tips to make your ride more enjoyable: Pre-ride hydration. Start over-hydrating tomorrow, Friday and on Saturday morning - drink plenty of water and stay away from caffeine and alcohol as they will un-hydrate your body. Pre-ride eating. Carbo load - eat the same total amount of calories as usual, but eat more quality carbs like pasta, beans and / or rice. Sodas are not quality carbs. Decrease meat product calories and increase good carb calories. During ride hydration. Have your bike fitted with two water bottle cages and two large size bottles OR Wear a 70 - 100 oz. water bladder pack and put some ice in the pack before adding you liquid refreshment. During ride eating. Carry a few gel packs, ex: Clif Shots, Clif Bloks, Hammer Gels taste best. These are for backup or if you don't like what the rest stops provide. Get a product with sodium, potassium and some sugars. Candy bars maybe not so good. Clif Bars OK for solid snack. Rest stop food. Eat bananas, orange slices, nuts without the chocolate candy. Over-hydrate by drinking extra water and put some energy drink in your body. Bike repair items. Carry two spare tubes and an air pump or CO2 pump with cartridges that will work with your tube's valve. Most are Presta type. Carry a small pocket knife or other sharp object to pry flat-causing debris out of you tires before putting in a new tube. Carry something that identifies you and how to locate an emergency contact. This could be an ICE number loaded on your cell phone or on a piece of paper in a plastic bag in your pocket. TCoffey

Team BBTC, I'll be handling the Team BBTC signup sheet for Best Dam Harmon's MS 150 Bike Tour on June 23 and 24. You can ride one or both days for a total of 175 miles (100 on Saturday, 75 on Sunday). Shorter distances are available. Saturday's routes are pretty flat with a couple of mild hills. Sunday's route has a short climb up to Hardware Ranch. If you don't see me on Saturday or Sunday morning, then just send me or Karen Curtain an e-mail with your mileage information for one or both days. We need ride leaders for these two rides in July. If you were planning on going on either ride you may be interested in leading it. I have route descriptions, maps and sign up sheets for both rides. I had planned on leading them myself but I have been called out of town during that time period. Friday July 20 9:30 Road Ride Park City Loop 20/ C/3-4/c This is an easy paced 20 mile loop from Newpark behind Smith's Market at Kimball Junction east to Promontory; Old Hwy 40 and into Park City along Hwys 248 & 224 to Old Ranch Road and back to Newpark. July 27 Friday 9:00 Road Ride MOD+ 50 Miles 50/C/2-3/c Meet at Newpark at 9:00 a.m. We'll ride from there up Brown's Canyon with a stop in Kamas for lunch. From there we'll loop through Oakley and Peoa before continuing back up Brown's Canyon. Approximately 50 miles and 2,000 ft elevation gain. The meeting place and time can not be changed but the route and mileage can be altered to suit the leader's requirements. Let me know if anyone is interested in leading either ride. Hi BBTC, The July calendar is up (except for some minor updating). Thanks again to all the ride leaders for posting rides. 85 rides in July is awesome! With this many rides there is some inevitable similarity and overlap, though. The rides that were posted were slightly different in start time, distance, pace, or starting point so I believe it will make more rides available to more members. When entering rides make sure you take a look at the calendar to make sure you're not putting your ride on top of another one. As our calendar gets fuller this becomes more important.
