Hi everyone, It's time to announce our exciting fall contest - the 2006 Commuter Challenge! Many of you enjoyed the Challenge last year and wanted to sign up again. This year we're adding some new incentives to build participation. Here are the details: ************************************* UTA RIDESHARE 2006 COMMUTER CHALLENGE How would you like to participate in one of Salt Lake's greenest community events? UTA Rideshare is gearing up for this year's Commuter Challenge contest and we invite you to sign up as a competitor. What is the Commuter Challenge? The Commuter Challenge is a friendly two-week competition between Salt Lake County businesses and organizations. The goal is to encourage more people to use sustainable transportation during their daily commute. This year the Commuter Challenge runs from Monday, September 11th through Friday, September 22nd. During the contest, organizations compete to earn the most points within their size category. You earn points every time you take a sustainable mode of transportation to work (i.e. walk, ride the bus or TRAX, carpool, vanpool, bike, telework). The Commuter Challenge is a great way to build teamwork and expose employees to healthier and less expensive commuting options. If your business is located downtown and subsidizes parking costs for employees, the Commuter Challenge is also an opportunity to create habits that can save your organization a lot of money. Winners receive awards, prizes and a lunch party at your business! So it sounds pretty good and you'd like to sign up? All you need to do is: 1. Choose a Team Leader to organize your company's efforts. The Team Leader will help get the word out, encourage employee participation, total employee points, and respond to any questions. Because you've been a resource for your employee transportation needs, you all would make great Team Leaders. Or perhaps you know someone who would. 2. Friends, This is your last chance to participate in the Tour of Utah - Freedom Peloton and ride the Stage 5 course before the race. For a limited time Tour Organizers will allow "Day-of registration" for $100.00. Arrive at the start between 5:00 and 5:45 to sign in. The 2006 Freedom Peloton begins at 6:00PM at the Stage 5 start of the 2006 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. The start line is on 400 West and South Temple in between the Gateway and Delta Center. Please plan to arrive thirty minutes prior to the start to allow enough time to park, organize your bike and belongings to be ready for our 6:00 PM departure with Bob Roll starting the way. The 2006 Freedom Peloton ride will begin with thirty minutes of parade laps up and down 400 West. At 6:30 PM Salt Lake City Police and the LHM Tour of Utah vehicles will escort all riders on to the entire Stage 5 course where all riders will have thirty minutes to complete as many laps as they can. Hey BBTC!! The BIG highlight this week is our annual club picnic on Saturday! Raleigh has planned some creative rides fashioned after rally car racing format. You can read all about it in his paceline in the August newsletter. Its available online and should be arriving in your mailbox any day now. We are still in need of some tandems to lead teams, contact Raleigh to help lead the charge! The Tour of Utah started today with Stage 1 going around Utah lake (sound familiar?).
