I find Send your love very simplistic for Techno sakes. I don’t think Stings writing prowess is under attack here, it is just that if he were to write a techno album, I think he could do a lot better job than he has done with Send your love. For example, Madonna made the techno leap with the Ray of Light album, and what a F#&ing album it was. It was fantastic. I think Sting could do an utterly fantastic one, so to do a simple thing like he just did baffles me.
Jeremy and fellow Stingers, I think you make a valid point, Jeremy. I for one can't stand techno. Some people eat it up. And the two of us may even have different definitions of what constitutes techno. Some people would classify "Desert Rose" as techno, but I personally wouldn't. I LOVE that song. Sting dived into the electronic genre and infused it with new life, with emotion. This version of "Send Your Love" has no life, no emotion. It's bland. The kids on the dance floor will love it. This song will help sell the album. But does this song tear down any barriers? No way. It's the same old music industry fluff we can hear on any sleepy, corporately owned station. "That's the new Sting song. Before that was Cher. Next up, Mariah Carey." Please! Sting should not fall meekly into such categories. He's capable of much more. That said, I'd still like to know if this is the album version of "Send Your Love." And I still have confidence that the album overall will be solid. In the end, I've never been disappointed by a Sting album. Johnny Nitro
