I'm sorry, I do have one controversial question do bootleggers give themselves production credits on the back covers of their cds? p.s. the cover of my sting book has a rip & i haven't finished reading it yet waaah! _________________________________________________________________ Say goodbye to busy signals and slow downloads with a high-speed Internet connection! ... what the heck does de do do do mean anyway ?
In the context I've always presumed it means that the singer is fed up listening to people being idiotic and not thinking before they act/speak. Kind of like how people sometimes these days cover their ears and exclaim "I'm not listening." Kind of ironic. Mark.
I always thought it meant that whoever he was talking to in the song, was talking nonsense, and that rather than covering his ears "la la la - I can't hear you...", he just can't make any sense of the persons point.... Not to start up YAMD (Yet Another Massive Debate); I'd essentially agree with you, but I do think that it is more than people just speaking nonsense. Rather, people not making sense given the singers viewpoint. Whatever he was singing about, politics, faith or philosophy (or all three), clearly at worst he didn't understand what the hell they were saying, or at best he simply didn't agree. People not making sense is subtley different from pure nonsense. My niece speaks nonsense from my point of view, but her mother always seems to know what she means. Mark. NB: Bad me, I clipped out the name of the original poster (I believe it was Nigel Tuffman). It occured to me that your choice of lyric was probably not merely serendipitous. Very clever, kudos.
