Re: [Police] R:Copeland countries of release
If Universal Music doesn't want to invest the money in transferring and releasing this stuff, then Andy and Stewart should release it on their own independently. Sting can't stop them, because even though Sting was the principal songwriter of the group, the footage is of all three of them, and, being two-thirds of The Police, Andy and Stewart outrank Sting 2 to 1 and have a right to release footage of themselves as members of The Police. And even if Andy and Stewart can't afford to transfer the Super 8 to digital, I think most of us dyed-in-the-wool Police fans would eat up this stuff and buy it even on VHS -- although a non-remastered, non-cleaned-up DVD transfer would still be a must-have. Plus, the ensuing quality would add to the classic vintage feel of the nostalgic footage. Remember, if it wasn't for Andy's persistent labor of love, The Police Live double CD would have never seen the light of day, and not because of legal wrangles, but rather apathy. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Toni Carbó <TONICARBO@teleline.es> To: "Giovanni" <giovanni.pollastri@libero.it>,"Raj Manoharan" <raj_manoharan@hotmail.com>,<police@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: [Police] R:Copeland countries of release Date: Fri, 28 May 2004 07:54:38 +0200 Hi when I interview Andy Summers they told to me that there's a lot of material on SUPER 8mm, to expensive to transfer in new DIGITAL formats, that there's many, many tapes, that the idea is very nice and that many of these stuff is also on the Andy's hands, (double copies). There's many stuff of fans from difff. countrys,...etc... etc... best toni ----- Original Message ----- From: "Giovanni" <giovanni.pollastri@libero.it> To: "Raj Manoharan" <raj_manoharan@hotmail.com>; <police@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, May 28, 2004 1:23 AM Subject: [Police] R:Copeland countries of release Ciao Raj; the new Stewart Copeland cd will only be released in Italy by now; there might be the chance that some importer in every country will get it on import, but that doesn't mean it will be distributed or released; just as import, that means a few copies. There are already some deals coming about licensing the cd outside Italy, but for sure it won't be released before the summer. Actually, if I remember correctly, Our Mother Is Alive is one of the cuts from Stewart Copeland's soundtrack for Rumble Fish, just as The Equalizer is a cut from the TV show and corresponding soundtrack of the same name, also done by Stewart. Sure they are, and the live versions are very close to the studio version; it's great to listen to this stuff live! Ciao ciao Giovanni

Hello Raj. I guess that Sting approval is necessary by contract, otherwise I guess we would have had the chance to see many other videos and audios released. It's not about the 2/3 of the band, is about contracts.
