The Police will kick off their first tour in 23 years in Vancouver on May 28, it was confirmed today (February 12). The three-piece revealed their plans at a press conference and mini-rehearsal at the Los Angeles venue Whisky A Go Go, just a day after performing their classic hit 'Roxanne' at the Grammy Awards. The band were in high spirits at the rehearsal, joking with one another on stage and answering questions from audience members during a brief question-and-answer session. Before taking the stage, the band exhibited a sense of humour by playing an old recording of frontman Sting saying he would have to be dubbed "certifiably insane" if The Police ever got back together. Flash forward to today, and Sting was announcing the details of the reunited band's world tour. "We had such a good time at the Grammys last night, we thought we'd dig these out of the vault and rehearse them," Sting said before the band launched into 'Message In A Bottle'. After the rapturous applause from the audience (which included Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy and Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters) died down, drummer Stewart Copeland joked, "We're supposed to be such a slick band, but we don't even have a set list. Set lists are for wimps!" Next, the band settled on 'When The World Is Running Down' and a cheeky Copeland shouted out chord changes to guitarist Andy Summers throughout the song. Sting drank tea from the stage during the Q&A portion of the conference, and candidly answered questions about the band's initial break-up. "It's a part of my life I ran away from 25 years ago," Sting said. "The nature of our arguments was all about music. We still fight, but..." "No we don't!" Summers chimed in before Sting could finish. The band played two more songs, 'I Can't Stand Losing You' and 'Roxanne', before calling it a day. "I thought they were amazing," Fall Out Boy singer Stump told NME.COM after the performance. "The Police reunion is the coolest thing that's ever happened ever," gushed the long-time fan. The Police disclosed the dates of the first leg of their North American jaunt - their first tour since 1984's 'Synchronicity'. It will start on May 28 at the GM Arena in Vancouver, the Canadian city where the band are currently rehearsing. They will then go on to play several major arenas including New York's Madison Square Garden and a headlining slot at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee on June 16. The band confirmed that they will also play dates in the UK and Europe during September and October before heading back to North America for additional dates in late October. They will then continue on to Mexico and Australia. The dates announced so far are: Vancouver GM Place (May 28) Seattle Key Arena (June 6) Denver Pepsi Center (9) Las Vegas MGM Garden Arena (15) Bonnaroo Festival (16) Phoenix US Airwaves Arena (18) Dallas American Airlines Center (26) New Orleans Arena (June 30) St Louis Scottrade Center (July 2) Toronto Air Canada Center (22) Montreal Bell Centre (25) Boston Fenway Park (28) New York Madison Square Garden (August 1,3) Additional North American concert dates in Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Edmonton, Hartford, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Tampa, San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul and the Washington/Baltimore area will be announced in the next few weeks. The band split in 1984, although they regrouped for a handful of concerts in 1986 before breaking up for good. They did perform in public at their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
