"Forever conditioned to believe we can't live
We can't live here and be happy with less
So many riches, so many souls
Everything we see we want to possess..."
Why, Sting, did you become so completely focused on money after you
became wealthy? And did that obsession play a role in robbing your music of
the joy it once had?
I
guess we don't have to consider lyrics as personal issues;
sometimes they are, sometimes they might be referred to certain stories
even not personal; Stewart Copeland used to tell me that most of the Police
songs were driven to a different direction when they realised being
too close to personal stories.
I
trust in the musical activities of Sting, that's what I need from him; I trust
his honesty in writing good music, I like his attitude towards music, it's
plain to see he does albums believing completely in them, whether people like
them or not; you can read between the notes that not that much has changed
from the past, his spirit is really sincere; what might have changed is the
businness, what goes around in the music market has changed a lot, and I can
tell that as an insider of this biz. He got to stay close to some kinda move,
but that's another story; what I think we must consider is the way he does
music; there are so many artists that we don't know anything about their
private life, but we love their music; who care what they do in thier private
life?
At
least, in our case as Sting fans, we also know many other things, and if we
know them it means Sting is very open to people, and that's another good
quality I think. What he wants to keep it secret....he has the way
to keep it secret for sure.
