brian raises an excellent point, one raised many times during the BND tour - that of the reason why one takes a corporate sponsor. i remember when genesis got involved with michelob back on in 1986: they took a beating for it. years later, when phil collins was asked why they did it, he said the reason was to keep ticket prices down. this is the idea, right? here's $$$$ i plunked down on BND: * 1 ticket for show in beacon theater in new york for the bargain basement price of $115 * 2 tickets for show in the njpac center in newark, nj, another steal at $90 per ticket this to hear him play "a thousand years" for what seemed like a half hour, to perform the "bring on the night/when the world..." medley for the gazillionth time, etc. money would be no object to me if he acted like every performance was a challenge to him, that he was pushing himself. i saw him 3 times on the last tour - each time, he seemed bored to me, like he was mailing it in. we mentioned it before i would gladly play $$$$ to see him in a solo, acoustic setting - no one but just him on stage. rich p.s. here's hoping with all this money, they can afford to use real fire should he perform "desert rose", instead of the red paper... --- "bjacob@pop-server.nyc.rr.com" <bjacob@pop-server.nyc.rr.com> wrote:
Good GOD, those prices are obnoxious. Glad to see the corporate sponsorship is easing the financial burden.
$160??!? C'mon, now. I've been a Sting devotee for years but that's just...
...ugh.
Sorry to complain, but it's hard not to in cases like these.
Trini replied to my earlier post about Sting "selling out" again with:
"Sting is a capitalist and good for him, he deserves all the money he gets!"
But does that mean that we as fans need to get screwed in the process? I had great seats for a Soul Cages tour arena show that I paid around $25 for. TST tour was even better and not much more expensive. These were some of the best performances I'd ever seen, and they certainly didn't have a huge amount of corporate sponsorship. How did things change THAT dramatically since then?
One hundred and sixty dollars for ONE ticket. PLUS "convenience charges".
I never thought I'd say this - especially after splurging for three expensive shows on the last tour, but I'm going to give this tour a miss. I'm heartbroken about it, but there are much better things I could do with the money. I've given Sting more than enough over the years. This is beyond ridiculous and I don't want to be taken advantage of any further. I love the music, why should I have to pay through the nose in order to enjoy it?
Sad, Brian

I was checking out tickets to the Sting shows and I was a bit surprised of the prices - at least for the show I checked out. $160per tix for all lower level seats (plus convenience and ship charges). While its true you can get the next level up (mezzainine) for $90 per ticket but these seem pricey. This was for the 3 nites at beacon and may be par for the course but certainly tempered my enthusiasm for getting tickets - though I'll still go of course.
What are you guys seeing as I didnt check a lot of the gigs.
