Hello everybody! I'd like to share with you all the listening of 'The Police Derangements' we were all talking about a few weeks ago; for those still 'confused' about that, it's a series of works done by Stewart Copeland on some Police tracks, he 'lobotomised' (following his words) some tunes, opening the songs, remixing, a cut & paste artistic touch, with a final result that would surprise everybody. I don't own this stuff but I have free access to listen to it; don't ask for copies as I don't have them, and talking to Stewart about that in July, he said he would probably put them online (don't know where at the moment). Please, don't write about that on any internet site; it's a confidential 'spread of news'; this is to respect what the owner of the copy asked me, and I want to respect. Thanks. I'll add one song each day more or less - 7 songs in total. I start with: REGGATTA DE BLANC / CAN'T STAND LOSING YOU (it's not that easy to explain!) The song starts with the the classic 'Sha! Sha! Sha!' by Sting, but here it is sung over the bassline during the live performance of Regatta De Blanc after the singalong with the crowd (that means the second part of Reggata De Blanc) where usually there is no vocals. A new melody of the guitar by Andy gives it a different shape, probably sampled from another guitar part. Stewart got all the recordings from Atlanta (live 1983), while some vocals parts of 'Can't Stand Losing You' have been taken from the original master (1978). Everything after this beginning is a little bit unexplicable to tell the truth: the bassline from the bridge before the vocals 'I guess this is our last goodbye' (where usually Andy plays some chords using only armonics and there is no vocal) have now the vocal part 'I guess this is our ......'; it comes out a different tune, absolutely interesting. The song goes on with changes of basslines, got from Regatta and Can't Stand, with voice pitch changes, where even the crowd has been pitched (different variations on the melody sung), very Stewart sound! Some part of piano have been added (in the classic Stewart style), I guess Stewart recorded them this year. The result is a little bit confusing the first time you listen to it, but one thing is sure: it keeps the spirit of The Police sound and the jam attitude of the band. As soon as it starts, it's like listening something from the Police you have never heard, then you realise it's a work of different combination of live & studio material. Some other songs included are more like 'songs'; this one is like a jam, in the classic Police style! Toward the end there the bridges 'I guess you call it suicide...', 'you can call it lack of ...' and 'I guess you call it cowardice...' are all consequent, creating a unique long bridge that gives more strenght to the sound. Very cool! All along the song, guitar riffs and sounds from Andy has been sampled and added, with parts of solos, chords, and many other tricks, perfectly in tune with the atmosphere of the song! THIS IS THE REAL POLICE WORLD!!! Everything sounds actual even in 2002! Quality is perfect, as he got everything from the original masters. Next song to be revealed will be: DON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME! (a real jewel ....I got chills, they're multiplyin'). Hope you enjoy, and, please, keep them for your personal use. Ciao ciao Giovanni
