I've heard a lot of people sticking up for
the fan club's high pricing, and yes, I guess I'm a whiner.
Well, after paying $65 for "exclusive"
premium membership, what do I get?
The chance to listen to 6 songs from the
album... when I can now hear the whole lot for free from
bol.com.
The chance to buy "exclusive" tickets to see
him in Paris... when I could have got them cheaper, with free membership on
Ebay.
The chance to enter my zip code (or post
code for us in the UK, do we exist?) and find my closest store - and
whoah.... it links to a non-existant page at "amrecords.com"
The chance to buy the record directly from
the sting.com website for $28.90 (£18.15 GBP) ($13.95 for the album, plus
$14.95 delivery!!!!!), when I can buy it from play.com for
either £10.99 ($17.51) for the SACD hybrid, or £8.99 ($14.32) for the standard
version - BOTH INCLUDING DELIVERY.
I'm fairly confident, that having paid £30
for lifetime membership of the Crowded House fanclub, which included a free club
CD (Mixing desk recording from the huge back-catalogue of fan-club only CD's),
plus the chance to regularly buy new club CD's of rare or unreleased Crowded
House, Neil Finn, Tim Finn, and Split Enz tracks, I have a right to be a little
annoyed at how much I'm getting for my $65 per annum.
Unless somebody could remind me - what am I
getting from the sting fanclub that I can't get elsewhere, for my
$65??
