Me too. I prefer angry Sting's music, and yoga Sting's "persona". I couldn't
stand his public persona in the early years----breaking up the best band on
earth, but still stuck w/him despite the antics. I do love to see him smile and
actually look happy now.

I think I recall one of his quotes that said he finally realized he doesn't
have to be unhappy to write good music--- but I'd debate that one. Yes, I like
his music now, but given the option, give me that opinionated pain in the arse
back!

Yeah, yeah, he's growing, we're growing. I can open my mind to lute music,
but I like what I like!

a few nites ago, I watched the police's "amnesty" set
at the meadowlands, june 1986.

while i have watched it multiple times, with this
viewing i finally was struck with just how much energy
and attitude sting played with tha nite. (remember, he
had been out on the road with TDOTBT band for several
months by this point. watch 'bring on the night' - he
does NOT play with the fire he played on that june '86
nite).

and while i picked this up for the 1st time, one
thing resonates with every viewing...depression...

Yes
Same effect on me ... I think he simply took great time playing with the boys after a 2 year breakup.... there was so much energy at this concert that one can regret that they did not do a last farewell tour .... but never say never as Sting say... though I really doubt about it  !!

So play again this 1986 gigs ! don't be nostalgic and simply enjoy
Michel

Hi Everyone!
My husband subscribes to Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and Andy is the cover story! It shows him posing with his self-designed Martin signature series Andy Summers guitar. There are several more pictures and a long article full of very technical stuff that I'm sure my husband would love to explain to me in minute detail, but... I'm an afficionado, not a guitarist!
There was a very interesting mention, in a little blurb attached to the article, of a cover of EBYT, and I'll quote it here:
"Police songs have been covered by everyone from Alanis Morrisette and Anthrax to UB40 and frank Zappa. 'Recently I got this album, Policia,'
(The Militia Group, www.themilitiagroup.com) Summers says. 'It has about 12 different bands doing Police covers. My one criticism of the record is that it gets too heavy, so all the subtlety and all the little weird stuff we did gets lost in this massive, sheet-of-sound modern production. But there's a version of EBYT on there (by an English band called, ironically, Copeland) that is really fantastic. They do it slowly, like a ballad, and they've completely reharmonized it. It's a knockout. I might actually write to these guys and say congratulations.'"
Has anyone heard this cover? Sounds intriguing! Also, the magazine always gives free tabs for guitarists to try, and this issue includes "World Gone Strange" and "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic."
It's an interesting article and a beautiful guitar, so check it out!
Have a great week!
Holly

Reading this I went to iTunes - this version is not there but there
are about 40 other versions of EBYT including one by - are you
sitting down? - Jack Jones! To anyone who complains about how laid
back or mellow Sting is now, at least he's no Jack Jones! Oy! thought
I would like UB40's version - never saw 50 Date movie - but from the
little blurb, no, don't think so - LOVED their remake of Elvis's
Can't Help Falling in Love.

BUT thanks to myspace - http://www.myspace.com/policia - when you go
there EBYT plays!

you too! and everyone else!

'Wild Thing' author Copeland dies of cancer
By Maggie Large
TELEGRAPH STAFF WRITER

Ian Copeland, founder of Frontier Booking International and brother to Police drummer Stewart Copeland, died Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
Copeland, 57, had melanoma.
Copeland came to Macon in the 1970s from London to work for Paragon Agency, the booking agency affiliated with Capricorn Records. He later married Connie Walden, now Connie Roberts of Jones County. They had two children, Chandra, 31 and Barbara, 26, and divorced after 12 years of marriage, Roberts said. His agency represented new-wave and alternative acts like Joan Jett, R.E.M., Squeeze, The Police, The Go-Gos and many others.
In 1995 Copeland wrote his autobiography, "Wild Thing," which detailed his life from his childhood in Damascus to his Macon days working at Paragon and later for himself all over the world. In recent years he owned the Backstage Caf¢® in Beverly Hills.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
