I'd like to echo Jason's sentiments regarding the
"added value" of the fanclub. Even multi-billionaires U2 had a very good
deal with their fanclub--$20 got me four issues of the very impressively
assembled Propaganda magazine, an exclusive bonus live CD, and a chance to
buy advance tickets for local shows (usually slightly cheaper). I can
certainly vouch for the Crowded House/Split Enz/Neil Finn club as well--a level
of personalized service that I'd have thought impossible given the high number
of members...for $15/year.
I'm glad I held back on spending the $65 for
Sting's group (and I'm certainly a bigger Sting fan than a U2 or even Neil Finn
fan), but the "added value" just didn't seem worth it. I'd love the chance
to see an exclusive fanclub show in NYC, but not for an additional high
ticket cost on TOP of the high fan club fee. As for getting to buy tickets
for other shows on the tour, I really don't think being in the club would give
me an advantage.
I'm curious to know what'll be on the "exclusive"
CD-ROM, and how long it'll be before that material surfaces in other formats,
and whether it'll help justify the cost.
Sorry to those that have joined and feel
disappointed. I'm glad I saved my money for the Japanese SACD version of
Sacred Love ($31.84 including shipping from www.cdjapan.co.jp).
