Just got back from
the Today Show. Despite the cold, Sting & band sounded great. I like the
live arrangement of Send Your Love much better. And Joy Rose is absolutely
amazing. Whenever I say Your Name went into this long outro and she just nailed
it. For those of you who are put off by the extensive use of programming on the
album, I don't think this will be the case on tour. Vinnie and another
percussionist are handling rhythms, and there were fewer effects live than on
the studio versions.
They rehearsed Send Your Love about five
times and Whenever I Say Your Name a couple of times. The actual show
performances were much better than the rehearsals -- Whenever sounded very
different. Which is encouraging because it goes to show you that they can still
improvise when it comes down to it. He was only scheduled to play three songs
(SYL, WISYN and Desert Rose), but went on to play Englishman and Every Breath,
which sounded no different than last time around :-(
