1. Are we going to get together before/after the show for dinner/drinks?
2. I have my airline tickets purchased.  What hotel do you Vancouverites
recommend?
3. Do I need my passport to fly into Vancouver from the states?
4. Is this real?

Passport is now mandatory to have if flying back into the US.  It is still not mandatory if driving back to the US, but helpful to have.  Some other form of ID, like a drivers license, is required.
