Great
interview, Sting was great
I agree with the prevailing wisdom. Sting was hilarious, but McEnroe
himself was wooden. The first show left the impression that not much
thought went into the creative process. The sidekick guy had an
insignificant, confused role, and McEnroe thought so slowly that huge spaces of
blank airtime circled like vultures. Once the guest lineup slips, the
show could rot from the inside out. Opening jitters or more talk show
roadkill?
But Sting brought home the guaranteed laughs with the
tantric sex jokes. And Sting's insistence that the host gave him the
"full McEnroe treatment" during their tennis match was a knee-slapper.
Sting seemed more at ease in front of the camera than McEnroe.
Maybe Sting's future includes a talk show host
gig? Sittin' on Gordon's Porch? Sumner and
Chums? Gettin' Jiggy with Stingy?
