I'd buy that, too. I'm a little more ambivalent about some of the songs on his last few albums (though La Belle Dame Sans Regrets is the only song of his I can honestly say I don't like at all), but overall I'd say that the stuff Sting relegates to b-sides, or the back of his sock drawer or wherever, is probably a damn sight better than a lot of what other artists release. I'm still trying to track down a few b-sides, come to think of it. However, I suspect a solo box set is unlikely because it'd lead to all the same questions he's perhaps hoped to avoid by not playing with the Police again. If he does that now, it's because the 30th anniversary gives him a legit opportunity to do so and seem to be doing it for the fans (or even the cash), rather than because the Police was his career high (however you judge these things... it's not like he's never had big financial, critical or creative moments since then).
