Anyone care to give some impressions over the new Shpongle remix CD that came out in November? I haven't heard or seen it yet. My friend passed me a 10% 'share the wealth' deal after buying it for himself and I'm tempted. Slightly low on funds right now so I'm willing to put it off if the album isn't mind bogglingly good, but I'm sure I'll get around to buying it sooner or later.
Get this instead:

All except for track 1 are just awesome, gorgeous psy-ambient in the same vein as Shpongle - far more Shpongly than 80% of the remixes album. It'll scratch your itch, no doubt. Track 7, is by Ott operating as Umberloid, so there's even one degree of separation (from Shpongle.)
The remix album was really disappointing, although track 7 by Ott and 8 by Esion Jim are both pretty strong. (Anyone know anything about Esion Jim? Need MORE from this guy... Everything I've heard from him is solid gold, unfortunately that's like 4 singles, maybe.)
Anyone else pick up the "Youth in Dub" album? Thoughts? Not bad, IMO. There are a couple of tracks that sound like vintage Orb (like when they were still making good music :p) I'm confused about the liner notes for track 4, I don't see Youth's name appearing on the track anywhere. Maybe it was just recorded in his studio or something.
Anyhow, more Orbish than Shponglish, but if you're into that, it's worth a listen.

Happy new year, and all that.
Peace.
