Several years ago, as a list we decided not to publicly offer "IN PRINT" ORB mp3s out of basic respect for the band.
indeed we did.
This was agreed upon by the list and to some extent the Orb itself by way of Smiley's connections.
indeed it was. the basic viewpoint was then - and still is, afaik - this: if it's out of print / deleted / live gig bootleg-type stuff, being shared for NO PROFIT = FINE (although the record companies may think otherwise, of course). if it's in-print / commercially available / being distributed FOR PROFIT = NOT FINE.
I think we all can appreciate the fact that you are being generous in letting the list members download the tracks you have collected.
that's true - as it is for all the other people on the list that provide ftp access (ant, moondog, steph, etc)... ...HOWEVER, lx and others involved with the orb are not "rich" - as most people assume they are. island sat on the last album for a couple of years, which didn't help - and was one of a number of factors involved in andy leaving the band...the need to make some actual money and pay a few bills. lx tends to make his money by dj'ing, as the orb have hardly been going "platinum" recently - especially when they were stuck with a record company that didn't seem to give a shit about them. so - when you're taking stuff that is still "in print" and is easily available (any argument about stuff being impossible to find from a community that uses the internet as regularly as this one is complete bollocks, IMHO)... ...you're depriving lx / andy / etc of their royalties and payments. it's as simple as that! here endeth the ranting. l8rs. --- Smiley __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sorry, couldn't let this one go... Smiley is one the good guys...and I think the point he was trying to make was if Alex & Co. are trying to make money off an album (i.e. the Bobs), it shouldn't be offered for free (at least in public, anyway). They are the reason we're all on this list, right? I don't think he implied that you were making any dough from your ftp. Not a personal attack, RM, just a clarification. Good luck with the surgery. james : Nothing was ever charged on my FTP...100 % free. The thread is complete and : over with it was ended last week. This thread has to end sometime, but I'm not doing much to help. Is this guy rmstringer for real? I'm just awestruck at the arrogance and ignorance of him putting up mp3's from our favorite band that are still in print and available to purchase. Further more, the moderator (if any)is allowing him to advertise this. A year ago no listee would've put up with it, why is it so okay now? Why are we supporting or allowing someone to, in the least, advertise robbing profits from the orb? jeff Sorry, couldn't let this one go...
